Dear Scenic Hudson Member,

On Monday, Dec. 17, Beacon is expected to achieve an important milestone as the City Council votes to approve a new Comprehensive Plan. This is the first revision to the plan since it was first adopted in 1974 -- when Beacon was a very different city. The new plan addresses some important issues in forward-thinking ways. Here at Scenic Hudson, we're especially pleased to see that plan provides for the following:

• Preserving significant landscapes and creating open-space corridors
• Promoting sustainable commercial development throughout the city
• Encouraging scaled mixed-use development along the Hudson waterfront
• Creating a more cohesive Main Street through increased housing densities in the central business district
  

This new Comprehensive Plan represents the culmination of nearly two years of hard work by a committee of volunteers -- including Scenic Hudson staff members -- and appointed officials. I know it's a busy time of year, but I'd like to invite you to stop by the meeting next Monday to show your support for the plan and to thank the committee members for all their hard work. Even if you can't make it to the meeting, I invite you to download the draft plan from cityofbeacon.org.

UP NEXT: Implementing the Plan
Voting to approve the plan is only the beginning. Now we need to form some committees to help implement the new plan and make sure that Beacon's continued growth stays on the right track.
