URGENT:
Volunteer Photographers Wanted

Dear Scenic Hudson Member,

Olana's legendary views could suffer a blight. A telecommunications company wants to build a nearly 20-story tower on Blue Hill, one of the most prominent natural features seen from Olana, the home of Hudson River School artist Frederic Church. Some 130,000 visitors come to this state historic site each year to view Church's house and the spectacular vistas he painted, including Blue Hill.

On Saturday, Dec. 15, a large weather balloon will be floated 190 feet above the proposed tower location. Scenic Hudson, the Hudson Valley's largest environmental organization, will be documenting its visual impact. We need the help of three or four photographers - professional or hobbyist - to help us.

When: Saturday, Dec. 15. (In case of high winds or inclement weather: Saturday, Dec. 22)

Where: Olana State Historic Site and surrounding area (between Red Hook, Dutchess County, and Hudson, Columbia County)

What: 4MP digital camera and 35mm (with 50mm "normal lens") backup camera. If you only have one, we'll team you up with another photographer. A tripod is desirable, but not essential

How: Contact Jeff Anzevino at 845 473 4440, ext. 221 (work); 914 489 5759 (cell), or 845 691 6784 (home).

Scenic Hudson will provide training, as well as film and memory cards. Photographers will be teamed with observers who will record the location and environmental conditions at the time of each photograph.

Help us - and help protect the public's views from one of the Hudson Valley's premier historic sites. Thank you!
