Smart Growth Tourism Plan AT RISK in Dutchess County

For 20 years Scenic Hudson has been working with allies in Hyde Park to protect and enhance the community's world-class historic attractions and their power to benefit Hyde Park's economy. Besides being touchstones for the story of our nation, these destinations are key parts of a Dutchess County tourism industry that pays $29 million in taxes annually and employs 10,000 people.

Senators Clinton and Schumer need to hear from YOU

We've got momentum behind a great plan to add to all this -- but we need your help to secure the support of senators Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer. The vision is to create a welcome center/tourism hub in Hyde Park, as well as other uses such as a dinner theater or museum. The center would provide an attractive, convenient place for visitors to learn about sites in the town and region. It also would allow people to park and be shuttled to the FDR Home and Museum, Val-Kill, Vanderbilt National Historic Site, The Culinary Institute of America, and Hyde Park's business district. It's smart planning and helps reduce car pollution that contributes to the climate-change problem.

The time is now -- with Senate meetings approaching

The House of Representatives has supported an appropriation for this project. But the Senate also needs to act right away. The Senate Appropriations Sub-Committee on Transportation will meet as early as next week -- so Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer need to hear from you. Tell them you want this for your treasured historic sites, economy, traffic relief and to help fight climate change.
