Tuesday, Sept. 4, is the date

Mark the day after Labor Day on your calendar: that's when the Beacon City Council will vote on the proposed purchase of University Settlement Camp. As I mentioned in my e-mail last week, the city has a chance to acquire this beautiful 50-acre wooded property -- complete with a theater and an Olympic-size swimming pool -- for an extremely attractive price.

Come to the meeting and show your support

We're asking citizens of Beacon to attend Tuesday's city council meeting and speak out in support of the purchase. If we seize this opportunity now, the property can be a real treasure for the city. If we let the property fall into the hands of developers, community access to this land may be lost forever.

There will be an opportunity for public comment, so it's very important to have a good turnout. We want everyone's opinion to be heard.
