Kathryn Davis and Ned Sullivan Kayaking

Earlier this month, Kathryn W. Davis and Scenic Hudson President Ned Sullivan continued their annual tradition of taking a kayak excursion on the Hudson River. Mrs. Davis, a 104-year-old philanthropist from Westchester County, launched her kayak from Scenic Hudson's recently opened Long Dock Park in Beacon. She and Ned kayaked down the Hudson to Dennings Point State Park and returned. Over the past few months, Mrs. Davis also presided at waterfront park ribbon-cuttings for Scenic Hudson RiverWalk Park at Tarrytown and the Kathryn W. Davis RiverWalk Center at Kingsland Point Park in Sleepy Hollow.

In Orange County, Scenic Hudson recently conserved 72 highly scenic and prominently visible acres overlooking the Hudson River in the Hudson Highlands, ensuring a world-class vista spanning 10 miles will remain intact and unspoiled. The property—locally known as Rose's Camp, a summer bungalow colony in the early 20th century—is a key component of magnificent ridgeline views enjoyed daily by thousands of commuters on Metro-North, drivers on Route 9D and the Bear Mountain Bridge, and hikers on the Appalachian Trail. The Hudson Highlands Land Trust (HHLT) helped facilitate the negotiations. The transaction was made possible through a zero-interest loan from The Peter and Carmen Lucia Buck Foundation and the generosity of supporters. See this press release for additional details.
