Protect Water Quality on All Streams in Pennsylvania

stormwater runoffWe need your help to flood the Environmental Quality Board with emails telling them to protect our water quality by requiring 100 foot stream buffers on all streams in Pennsylvania.

Stormwater runoff from construction and new development is one of the largest sources of pollution to Pennsylvania rivers and streams! Over 3,600 miles of streams in Pennsylvania are polluted by stormwater runoff from our developed and developing areas.

One of the best solutions to this problem is to require forested buffers of at least 100 feet along all streams when new development is built.

Forested buffers help to decrease flooding and flood damage, slow down stream bank erosion, increase property values, and decrease pollution. This leads to cleaner drinking water and lower drinking water treatment costs and provides healthier streams to support fish and recreation.

The Environmental Quality Board (EQB) has proposed new regulations to be administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the control of erosion and sedimentation and stormwater runoff associated with new construction. Unfortunately, these regulations only include a voluntary program for forested buffers along streams.

Take Action

Send an e-mail to the Environmental Quality Board telling them to make 100 foot forested buffers mandatory on all streams in the Commonwealth!
