I was outraged to learn about plastic lead tainted Easter eggs being sold to children and that the CPSC did not recall them until just a few days before Easter. This is just another example of how our regulatory system has failed the most vulnerable among us. As a Christian, I pray that our elected officials will create strong legislation that strengthens lead standards and bans toxic chemicals such as phthalates that scientists believe can damage children's health for a lifetime. I hope that they also allow for states to strengthen laws that further protect children's health in the future when federal standards cannot do the job or as new scientific data emerges. Every child deserves to play safely on Easter and every day.
