Take Action to Protect Orange County Medical Marijuana Patients!

Attention Orange County Medical Marijuana Supporters!

At their July 17 meeting, the Orange County Board of Supervisors will be voting on whether or not to move forward with implementation of the statewide medical marijuana ID card program. Participation in the program is entirely voluntary for patients and their caregivers; however the county is required, by law, to make the program available.

Law enforcement officials in Orange County have a very poor track record when it comes to respecting California’s medical marijuana laws. This is why it is imperative that the ID card program be implemented without further delay.

If the program is implemented, Orange County patients and caregivers will be able to obtain the ID cards through a confidential program administered by the Department of Public Health. The program works to protect cardholders from unnecessary arrest, detainment or the seizure of medicine by state and local law enforcement.

Honorable Members of the Board of Supervisors, Please support implementation of the medical marijuana ID card program at your July 17th hearing. Once this state-mandated program is in place in our county, local law enforcement will be able to distinguish legal medical marijuana patients from those abusing the law. The majority of California counties have already adapted to this state program – including neighboring Los Angeles and Riverside counties – and the program has proven beneficial to both patients and law enforcement. There is no reason for Orange County to delay local implementation any longer. As a voter, I’m counting on you to uphold state law and protect seriously ill medical marijuana patients by directing staff to immediately implement this important program.
