No Delay on Leatherback Habitat Protections!
NO MORE DELAY - PACIFIC LEATHERBACKS NEED PROTECTED HABITAT ALONG U.S. WEST COAST!
THANK YOU TO THE 1,575 PEOPLE WHO HELPED US TRY TO PREVENT THIS NEEDLESS DELAY! New Date January 20, 2012
After more than four years of conservation action by Sea Turtle Restoration Project, our allies, and thousands of ocean activists, this summer we won a November 15, 2011 deadline to establish critical habitat for Pacific leatherbacks in U.S. West Coast waters.
But now Obama's marine wildlife officials say they need more time! A judge allowed further delay until January 20, 2012.
There is little time left to prevent the critically endangered leatherback from heading to extinction! Threats to their survival and recovery increase every day - from commercial fisheries, offshore drilling, new energy projects, aquaculture, plastics, global warming.
November 16th update: NMFS missed the deadline, and now must meet a new court-ordered deadline extention set at January 20, 2012. Please continue to send the message below!
