Conference Call: Making Broadband a Key Part of States' Economy Recovery
On Friday, March 20 at 1pm EST, Progressive States Network will hold a conference call focusing on making broadband a key part of states' economy recovery. The call will include an analysis of the $7.2 billion appropriated in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for broadband initiatives. We will also discuss how two state broadband initiatives, in line with the objectives of the ARRA, Broadband Deployment Councils and support for digital inclusion programs, can help address the digital divide, by increasing access to and adoption of broadband. Broadband Strategy Councils are used to devise a strategic approach to broadband initiatives and ensure that broadband investments correlate with other state goals. Digital inclusion initiatives help to ensure all residents have access to broadband and the necessary skills and hardware to utilize the technology.
Speakers will include:
S. Derek Turner -- Research Director, Free Press
Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles -- Washington State Senator
Betty Buckley -- Executive Director of the Communities Connect Network
Julie Schwartz -- Broadband, Technology and Economic Development Policy Specialist for the Progressive States Network
Date: Friday, March 20, 2009
Time: 1:00pm EST
