Peace Action reaches out to the media to educate the public and change the conversation on critical issues like the troop surge in Afghanistan. One third of Americans disapprove of an increased troop presence in Afghanistan. It is a good start, but we need to continue to educate the public against the false idea that peace can be won through force.

A recent study by the Carnegie Endowment has concluded that 'the only meaningful way to halt the insurgency's momentum is to start withdrawing troops. The presence of foreign troops is the most important element driving the resurgence of the Taliban.'

Counterinsurgency experts have said that a military strategy would require hundreds of thousands of troops we can't send, and even if we did there would be no guarantee of success.

Russia spent nine years in Afghanistan and lost many billions of dollars and more than 15,000 Russian soldiers.

Our country cannot afford to keep up two foreign wars and support President Obama's domestic agenda. We have to make choices - as a voter and a human being I choose to support a better plan for peace.
