Over the past year, Peace Action and Chicago Area Peace Action invested time and energy in building a strong No To NATO movement to greet NATO’s leaders when they arrived at last month’s summit meeting in Chicago.
The counter-summit organized by Peace Action and the American Friends Service Committee was a very successful event. Activists from England, Canada, Germany, France, Mexico, Nepal, Greece, and Australia were among the 320 in attendance. The days of demonstration that followed drew international attention to our demand that NATO end its war and occupation of Afghanistan.
We set out to break through in the mainstream media with a clear message and we did. There were 215 reports logged from media with a circulation of 3,146,812. Over 90% of the media coverage received was online however, drawing 167,123,121
As a member of Peace Action you know that we are one of the few organizations that uses all the tools in the social change toolbox. From civil disobedience and protests to lobbying Congress and meetings in the White House. From our national and local media presence around the country to electoral politics. With Election Day 2012 only five months away, it’s time again to invest in Peace Action’s unique Peace Voter work.
If you’re looking to make an impact on issues of war and peace, then you know every action is important. With a gift right now of any size, you help provide vital resources that will put organizers on the ground in several key states, respond instantly to right-wing attacks through our nationally coordinated media efforts, and work with key Members of Congress and legislative staff.
As Congress debates federal spending and runs for reelection, we need to be raising our voices and making sure we are heard. That’s the power of organization. Help me make it happen!
Humbly for Peace,
