Congress: Stop Bush's Multi-Billion Dollar Weapons Deal

We will collect signatures from across the nation over the next month leading up to the end of the Congressional Recess. You voice will be delivered to Congressional Members who can make a real impact on the arms deal through avenues like appropriations, defense strategy, and the Progressive Caucus. As this issue becomes more heated and the propaganda starts to fly Peace Action will keep you up-to-date on the details of the deal.

George W. Bush has proposed to send tens of Billions of dollars worth of advanced weapons to Saudi Arabia, Israel, Egypt, and five other states in the Persian Gulf.  More weapons are the LAST thing needed in this particularly combustible region.

This arms deal would have two predictable consequences:  First, if and when war breaks out, the level of destruction will be greater.  Second, weapons manufacturers with influence in Washington will reap billions of dollars in windfall profits.  Military production creates fewer jobs per dollar invested than civilian industry. 

We urge our Senators and Representatives to oppose this deal, and instead (1) invest the billions of dollars in renewable energy and (2) end the war in Iraq and begin a multilateral diplomatic initiative for peace throughout the Middle East.
