Tell Bush to Protect Birth Control Access

Bush's most recent attack on choice could force family planning clinics to hire people who will refuse to do their job, thus seriously limiting women's access to birth control and other reproductive health care services. The proposed regulation allows so-called "crisis pregnancy centers" to receive federal funding even though they refuse to inform patients or or provide access to the full range of reproductive health options.

I write to oppose the so-called “provider conscience” regulation. This regulation dangerously opens the door for institutions and individuals to deny access to contraceptives. For years, federal law has carefully balanced religious freedom and patients’ access to reproductive health care. The proposed regulations take patients’ health care needs out of the equation. I urge you to explicitly protect women’s access to birth control and the full range of information on reproductive health care in the regulation. Respect Maine’s wishes for reproductive freedom.
