URGENT! LD 1357 - To Repeal REAL ID is up for a vote in the Maine House of Representatives TODAY. PLEASE CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TODAY AT 207-287-1400 AND URGE HER OR HIM TO SUPPORT LD 1357 - to repeal the costly, ineffective law that threatens Mainer's privacy and continues to cause so much difficulty for Mainers and BMV staff alike. Click here to identify your representative by town. LD 1357 provides Maine with an opportunity to remedy the serious privacy, equal protection and bureaucratic problems created by last year's bill which implemented portions of the Federal REAL ID law. Security experts, including Margaret Stock, agree that REAL ID is bad for our security as well as creating serious problems for U.S. citizens and legally present individuals in our state. LD 1357 protects privacy, saves money, and eliminates needless and problematic document requirements for U.S. citizens and legally present individuals who simply want to drive legally in Maine. This law retains the residency requirement implemented last year that requires applicants for Maine licenses and ID cards to prove that they actually do live here in Maine - a law that appears to have been smoothly implemented and adequately addresses the concerns about people from out of state obtaining licenses. CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVE NOW and tell them privacy and equal protection under the law are vital to Mainers! Thanks for all that you do, Alysia, Brianna, Edward, Katy, Marian, Shenna, Zach If you would like to unsubscribe from this list, please reply to this email with "unsubscribe" in the subject line. |
