"An Act to Protect Family Caregivers" passed yesterday in the Maine House of Representatives (100-40). This is a great victory, but the Senate vote will be close. Please call your Senator today at 1-800-423-6900 and ask him or her to support L.D. 962. (You can find out who that is here) Read more about "An Act to Protect Family Caregivers" on the Maine Legislature web site. Workers with family members shouldn't have to be at risk for discrimination on the job. But, while Maine law protects women who are preparing to welcome a new child into the world, there is no state or federal law to explicitly protect workers who have children or are caring for aging parents. As a result, you can be fired or refused promotion, simply based on assumptions that you have too many obligations at home. It's time to update our workplace standards to the needs of today's families. Please call your Senator (you can find out who that is here) at 1-800-423-6900 and leave a message asking him or her to support the majority "Ought to Pass as Amended" committee report for L.D. 962, "An Act to Protect Family Caregivers." Thanks for all that you do,
