Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself.

Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself.

Sick of the long lines at the BMV?

So are we.

Last year, when the Bush Administration and Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff threatened to keep Mainers off of planes, Maine passed its own version of Real ID.

Change is in the air. We have a new head of Homeland Security who described Real ID as "enormously expensive," with "a lot of uncertainty about what to do and how to do it." Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano is sending parts of Real ID "back to the drawing board." 1

Last week Oregon became the 11th state this year to pass anti-Real ID legislation. Now it's Maine's turn.

Support LD 1357, which will repeal Maine's Real ID law. This law will:

·    Prevent the development of futuristic facial recognition technology, 2

·        Repeal legal status requirements that turn BMV employees into immigration agents,

·        End use of the federal SAVE database, and

·        Save over a half a million state tax dollars currently scheduled to be spent on REAL ID.

We can protect our privacy and reduce lines at the BMV at the same time.  Attend the public hearing on May 1st at 10am before the Transportation Committee at the State House.

Can't come to the hearing? Email your legislators and ask them to support LD 1357.

Thanks for all that you do,

Alex, Alysia, Brianna, Edward, Katy, Marian, Shenna, Zach
