Marriage is heating up in Maine. Today an ally in the legislature told us that anti-marriage e-mails are outnumbering pro-marriage e-mails in his inbox. One other legislator told us he hadn't received any pro-marriage messages. Our opponents are planning a rally on February 15 where Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., will speak. We think the best response to fear is love. That's why we're planning a pre-emptive action where couples will deliver Valentine messages of hope and equality to legislators in Augusta next week. WE NEED YOUR HELP. We are looking for committed gay and lesbian couples who want to get married to take time off of work to hand-deliver a Valentine to key legislators. If you and your partner can help, please e-mail or call Katy Jayne right away at kjayne@mclu.org or 774-5444. Can't come to Augusta? Send a message to your state senator or state representative here. As our opposition begins to take action, our legislators need to hear from us now that we support marriage. Thanks for all that you do, If you would like to unsubscribe from this list, please reply to this email with "unsubscribe" in the subject line. |
