City Hall needs reminding that the government should stay out of religion: that means no government establishment of religion and no government bans on religion. The City of Portland wants to ban Rabbi Moshe Wilansky's Saturday prayer services at his home because a neighbor complained about too many parked cars on the residential street. In attempting to use its zoning law to restrict the ability of Rabbi Wilansky to use his home for worship and fellowship, the city is curtailing the religious liberty of all the people of Portland. Click here for more information. TAKE ACTION.
*** Attend the vigil and hearing- THURSDAY, AUGUSTA 21, 5:30 *** At 5:30, demonstrate with us outside city hall to show that we care about religious liberty of everyone in our community. At 5:45, hear from Portland's diverse religious community leaders. At 6:30, show your support for Rabbi Wilansky and the First Amendment by joining us at the hearing before the zoning board. Can't make it? You can submit a letter to the zoning board here. The freedom to pray or not to pray is a matter for individual conscience, not government dictate. Thanks for all that you do, Alex, Brianna, Ed, Marian, Shenna, Zach Link for more information: http://www.mclu.org/Defending%20Prayer.html
