The MCLU supports workplace giving through MaineShare

Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself.

5 Maine newspapers,1 the Maine Public Utilities Commission,2 the Maine Public Advocate's Office, Maine Attorney General Steven Rowe, six non-profit groups, 108 Maine attorneys,3 prosecutors, and countless activists like you think telecom immunity for companies that broke the law sets a startling and dangerous precedent. We can't allow anyone - not the Administration and not the telephone companies - to operate outside the law.

Apparently, Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins disagree.4

When asked to choose between you and the telecoms, they chose the telecoms last week, voting against a common-sense update of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, that didn't include a get-out-of-jail-free card for the Bush Administration and Verizon.

It's not too late to change their minds. Senator Chris Dodd is filibustering telecom immunity today, but Senator Harry Reid and the Bush Administration want to stop that filibuster.

Today, Senators Snowe and Collins will be asked whether or not telecom immunity is their final answer.

Call them. Tell them to vote NO to telecom immunity. Vote no to cloture. Support Senator Dodd's last stand for the Constitution.
