Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself.

Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself.

Dear friends,

Today's Washington Post revealed that Verizon has been turning over customer records to the government without a court order.1  That should come as no surprise to Mainers; a year and a half ago a group of Verizon-Maine customers filed a complaint with the Public Utilities Commission to find out if their records were being shared with the government without their permission.

Call Maine's Senators and Representatives today.  Urge them to oppose any legislation that would grant the telecoms immunity for aiding the administration's illegal program or allow blanket warrants instead of individualized warrants.

Senator Snowe: (800) 432-1599
Senator Collins: (202) 224-2523
Congressman Allen: (202) 225-6116
Congressman Michaud: (202) 225-6306

Now that we know the truth, it's time to act
As soon as tomorrow, the House could vote on the RESTORE Act.  Supposedly RESTORE was designed to fix the trouble caused in August when Congress hastily passed the so-called Protect America Act rubberstamping warrantless surveillance.  But RESTORE is no fix at all.

The RESTORE Act allows for blanket warrants that do not specify who is going to be spied on or where the surveillance is going to take place.  Spying on Americans without individualized warrants violates the Constitution.

Verizon let you down- don't let them off easy.
There's a bill in the Senate that would grant telecom companies like Verizon immunity for their complicity with the warrantless spying program.  But the Senate should be spending its time protecting YOU- not the phone companies!  The warrantless spying program violates your Fourth Amendment rights, and the phone companies should be held accountable for their role.

Call today and tell Maine's delegation not to let ANYONE get away with ignoring the Constitution.  Urge them to oppose any legislation that would grant the telecoms immunity for aiding the administration's illegal program or allow blanket warrants instead of individualized warrants.

Senator Snowe: (800) 432-1599
Senator Collins: (202) 224-2523
Congressman Allen: (202) 225-6116
Congressman Michaud: (202) 225-6306

With Verizon's help, the Bush administration trampled all over the privacy rights of innocent Americans.  We cannot let them get away with it.  CALL NOW!  Today, the only thing that should be off the hook is the phones ringing on Capitol Hill.

Thanks for all you do.

Sincerely,
Rachel
