The MCLU supports workplace giving through MaineShare

Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself.

Hi all,

Sorry for the double email today.  I just wanted to let you know that the first ever MCLU Movie Night will take place Wednesday, August 15 (NOT the 14th, as I said before).  Here are the details:

TOMORROW!  Wednesday, August 15 at 6:30 p.m.at the North Star Cafe
225 Congress Street, Portland
"BEYOND THE PATRIOT ACT"

We'll watch "Beyond the Patriot Act," a half-hour episode from the acclaimed ACLU Freedom Files series.  "Beyond the Patriot Act" tells how a misguided law and other government reactions to 9/11 are restricting out most basic constitutional freedoms and threatening America's checks and balances.

With newly expanded presidential spying powers feeling like Patriot Act deja vu, this show is more relevant than ever.  Featuring Abdulameer Habeeb, a political refugee who was tortured by Saddam Hussein and found himself imprisoned in America without cause.

Following the screening we'll have a discussion about current administration policies and what YOU can do to stop the abuse of power.

From Robert Greenwald's Brave New Films Productions and directed by Emmy winner Jeremy Kagan, the Freedom Files combines interviews, documentary footage, comedy, drama, music and animation to tell the stories of real people in America whose civil liberties were threatened and how they fought back.

Hope to see you tomorrow at the North Star Cafe!

Thanks again,
Rachel
