Dear friends, Last week a federal court said the Bush administration cannot indefinitely imprison a U.S. resident on suspicion alone. That makes this a great time to call on the government to fix the Military Commissions Act and restore habeas corpus for good. The MCLU is headed to Washington DC to do just that, and you're invited. June 26th is the National Day of Action to Restore Law and Justice. A bus will leave from Portland and we hope YOU'LL be on it- sign up today at www.juneaction.org! We've heard from our National office that thousands of people from across the nation are headed to DC to take action. It's a whirlwind trip packed with exciting people and events- don't miss this chance to lobby for civil liberties in DC:
You can sign up by going here: www.juneaction.org We'll leave from the Park and Ride Lot on Marginal Way in Portland around 9:00 pm on June 25th. You can park your car there for up to 72 hours. We'll arrive in DC on June 26th in time for a rally, lobby training, and meetings with Maine's Congressional leaders and staff on Capitol Hill. Then we'll head home and have you back in Maine around 6:00 am on June 27th. Transportation and events are FREE! All are welcome but you must RSVP at www.juneaction.org to make sure we save you a spot. See you on the bus! Rachel L. Myers |
