Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself.

Dear friends,

Right now the only women in Maine without meaningful access to abortion care are those with the lowest incomes.  LD 1309, An Act To Provide Equity In Funding For Women's Health Services, would remedy this injustice by providing coverage for abortion services for MaineCare-eligible women.

The MCLU and the Maine Choice Coalition need your help lobbying our legislators to ensure fair and equal access to abortion services for all Maine women, regardless of income.

Please join us and other like-minded supporters at the Lobby Day for Women's Health Equity at the State Capitol on Thursday, April 26!

What does Lobby Day entail?  Free breakfast, for starters!  Then a brief training about our focus bills and how to lobby your legislator effectively.  From there, participants will break off into their "district clusters" and will have the opportunity to lobby their legislators!  Finally, activists will attend a public hearing on LD 1309 and will be able to observe the legislative process in action.  The day will begin at 8:30am and will last until mid-afternoon.  We will meet in room 105 in the Cross Office Building for breakfast and lobbying training.

Please RSVP as soon as possible to Rachel Myers at rmyers@mclu.org or 774-5444 if you are interested in participating in our Lobby Day!

Can't join us in Augusta?  How about a phone bank in Portland!

What: Women's Health Equity phone bank!  We will be calling activists in targeted locations and urging them to contact their legislators in support of LD 1309.

When: Wednesday, April 11 or Thursday, April 19 from 5:30 to 8:00pm

Where: MCLU offices, 401 Cumberland Ave. Suite 105, Portland (1st floor of the Back Bay Tower)

Why: The opposition has been contacting their legislators in full force, undermining the health and safety of Maine women.  We must show our policymakers that poor women deserve equal and fair access to their constitutionally protected right to safe, legal abortion.  Your voice WILL make a difference.  Come stand up for equal protection under the law!

Let us know if you can make it either night: Contact Rachel at rmyers@mclu.org or 774-5444.

We hope you can join us for one or all of these powerful events.
Thanks for all you do!

Rachel
