Dear friends, Defending the rights of immigrants was one of the founding principles of the ACLU. The need to protect immigrants' rights has increased as immigrants have become scapegoats for myriad social and economic woes. In 1996, at the height of anti-immigrant hostility not seen since the turn of the century, Congress enacted new discriminatory and unconstitutional legislation that targeted the civil liberties and civil rights of newcomers and longtime legal resident immigrants alike. The MCLU, a member of the Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition, is helping to circulate a letter which will be delivered to Maine's Congressional delegation in DC. Join thousands of Mainers in calling for fair and just immigration reform. Add your name today! Go here to sign the letter: http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/mclu/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=6932 Signing will only take a minute, but it will mean so much. Thanks for all you do, Rachel L. Myers |
