Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself.

Dear Washington County member,

The Maine Civil Liberties Union will be hosting a community forum in Machias on Thursday, February 1 at 6:30 at the UMaine Machias Science Building.  Executive Director Shenna Bellows will be joined by Maine Republican Liberty Caucus Chairman Representative Kenneth Lindell and Secretary of State Matt Dunlap.

On Thursday, January 25, an overwhelming bipartisan majority in the state Legislature (34-0 in the Senate, 137-4 in the House) approved a resolution to keep Real ID out of Maine.  Maine has taken the lead on rejecting the Real ID Act, which will turn our drivers' licenses into a national ID card by 2008, and the resolution was just the first step.  On Thursday, the public is invited to join us for a forum to talk about where we go from here.

Who: Secretary of State Matt Dunlap, MCLU Executive Director Shenna Bellows, Republican Liberty Caucus Chairman Rep. Ken Lindell

What: Real ID? Real Nightmare!  A forum on how to keep the national ID card out of our state and our country

When: Thursday, February 1, 6:30 pm

Where: UMaine Machias Science Building Rm. 102

Thanks,
Rachel
