Urge Obama: In Iran Diplomacy, Go for a Feasible Deal Now

President Obama commits numerous times to pursuing diplomacy with Iran during the presidential campaign.

While the U.S. and Iran are currently on a path of confrontation, the Obama Administration has reportedly drafted a confidence-building measure in which Iran would halt its 20% uranium enrichment and the West would provide fuel for Iran's medical research reactor, which is used to treat Iranian cancer patients.

According to recent press reports, your Administration has drafted a confidence-building measure in which Iran would halt its 20% uranium enrichment and the West would provide fuel for Iran's medical research reactor, which is used to treat Iranian cancer patients.

I urge you to vigorously pursue this proposal.

Decades of animosity between the U.S. and Iran aren't going to be resolved in one negotiation. This proposal would alleviate international concerns about Iran approaching the capacity to produce a nuclear weapon, while resolving an important humanitarian concern: Iran's ability to treat its cancer patients.

Moreover, it would help the United States and Iran step back from the brink of military confrontation, and make it easier to achieve other agreements in the future.

Conventional wisdom says you can't negotiate with Iran in an election year. I disagree. The American people elected you, in part, to pursue serious diplomacy with Iran. So long as you are our President, that's what you should do.
