US media helped railroad the nation into war with Iraq by treating as "fact" key allegations about Iraq's alleged WMD program which had not been proven. Now we're seeing the same behavior in the US media about allegations that Iran is seeking to acquire a nuclear weapon. A "photo gallery" published by the Washington Post is headlined, "Iran’s quest to possess nuclear weapons." This is an unproven claim, not a fact. But by making this allegation a headline, the Washington Post treats it as a fact.

Join us in urging the Washington Post's Ombudsman to "factcheck" the Washington Post's treatment of the allegation that Iran has a "quest to possess nuclear weapons" as a fact.

UPDATE 12/06/11: Victory! The Washington Post has responded to our campaign by correcting the offending headline. Thank you to everyone who emailed! For a full update, with screenshot comparison, visit our blog.
