President Obama has endorsed cutting Social Security and veterans' benefits by using the "chained CPI" to lower the cost-of-living adjustment. The Congressional Budget Office says cutting Social Security and veterans' benefits in this way would save the government $163 billion over ten years. This week, the House is expected to debate and vote on the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the bill authorizing spending for the Pentagon. The House is expected to consider several amendments to the NDAA that would push towards ending the wars.
