  • Email the House - Stop the Fake VAWA!

This is a red alert. The House is voting on a fake VAWA tomorrow. We need you to tell your Representative to vote NO on the House Republican Leadership's VAWA substitute and YES on the bipartisan, inclusive Senate VAWA. We can win!

  • Tell the Virginia Board of Health: TRAP laws hurt women!

Tell the Virginia Board of Health - TRAP laws hurt women!

The Virginia Board of Health is just 60 days away from finalizing outrageous regulations that could severely limit women's access to abortion in Virginia.

These new TRAP laws (Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers)require that any clinic that performs abortions in the state of Virginia must meet the same building codes as new hospitals. The Board of Health rejected a measure in September that would allow existing abortion facilities to be "grandfathered" into compliance with the new laws. As a result, all clinics must meet the new building standards within two years or shut their doors. This may result in many clinics being forced to close -- eliminating vital reproductive health services to Virginia women.

On January 28, 2013 the TRAP laws entered a 60 day public comment period before being finalized by the Board of Health in March. This is the last chance to stop anti-choice ideology from becoming law. Tell the Board of Health that these regulations hurt women!

  • Tell Congress to Stand up for Young Women and the Middle Class!

On December 31, 2012, billions of dollars in tax cuts are set to expire, which would lead to devastating tax increases on the middle class. If middle class tax cuts are not extended, the average young person will see their taxes rise by an average of $2000.00 next year. Tell House Speaker John Boehner not to hold the middle class tax cuts hostage.

The Senate has already passed a tax cut for the middle class that would prevent taxes from rising on 99.5% of 18-34-year-olds. However, Speaker Boehner refuses to allow a vote on the bill. House Republicans are threatening to sacrifice the financial security of nearly every American—and risk pushing the country back into recession—in order to protect tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires.

Don’t allow the House to hold the middle class hostage! Urge Speaker Boehner to allow a vote on the middle class tax cuts. There is currently a discharge petition in the House that would force a vote on this crucial legislation. To win, the petition will need signatures from at least 218 House members. Right now, 182 Representatives have signed the petition. Please contact your Representative and ask them to sign the discharge petition immediately.

  • Email the House - Stop the Fake VAWA!

This is it. The fake Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) reauthorization will be voted on by the House this Wednesday and we must defeat it.

Act now to stop the "fake VAWA" being pushed by House Republicans. Passing the real VAWA instead will prevent untold horrors to women in the most desperate and violent circumstances.

Unbelievably, the version of VAWA introduced by House Republicans Eric Cantor and Sandy Adams guts longstanding confidentiality rules, requiring that abusers be notified by U.S. authorities if their immigrant partners seek protection under VAWA, further endangering these women at the very moment that they are seeking to escape.

Tell Congress now that you want the real VAWA, the Senate-passed bipartisan VAWA, that retains protections for immigrant women, the LGBT community, and Native American Women.

Don't wait – tell Congress that you want the Senate-passed bipartisan Violence Against Women Act, and please forward this message widely. There's not a moment to spare.

  • Thank you, President Obama!

Today, President Obama said that "gay and lesbian Americans should be treated fairly and equally....at a certain point I've just concluded that for me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married."

Please stand with us today in thanking President Obama for taking this historic step.

President Obama is now the first sitting president in history to support gay marriage. This is a monumental victory for lesbian and gay rights.

Join us in thanking Obama for publicly recognizing that loving gay and lesbian couples deserve equal respect, rights, and protections under the law. As feminists, we are proud to stand for equal rights for all people.

  • Tell Large Local Radio Stations to #FlushRushNow

Thanks to your outrage and that of millions of women and men, advertisers have delivered a strong message to the syndicator of the Rush Limbaugh Show, Premier Radio Network. Premier announced yesterday it will suspend national advertising on the Rush Limbaugh Show for two weeks on local stations. Now it's time for radio stations, especially large ones, to say enough is enough and drop Rush!

Premiere is also circulating a list of 98 national advertisers to radio stations asking that commercials for these companies be scheduled "in dayparts or programs free of content that you know are deemed to be offensive or controversial (for example, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Tom Leykis, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity)."

Now that advertisers have said enough is enough, it's time for radio stations to say the same and drop the Rush Limbaugh show. Let the large local stations in New York City, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Chicago, and the Armed Forces Radio Network know you believe it's time to drop Rush and his extreme disrespect of women. Sexism is not OK.

  • Thank Dozens of Sponsors for deciding to #FlushRushNow

Please scroll down to the bottom of the page to add your name and send to ALL of the advertisers!

Your hard work for women is paying off. After only six days of organizing at least forty-five advertisers (updated 3/7 4:59pm) and two radio stations have dropped Rush Limbaugh’s show. Thank you for all of the emails, tweets, and facebook messages you sent to help make this happen!

Please take a moment now to thank the sponsors who have withdrawn their ads now because Limbaugh's supporters are attacking them. We must stand with these principled advertisers.

Last week, Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke – a Georgetown University Law student who dared to testify in Congress about birth control access – a “slut” and a “prostitute.” When Limbaugh attacked Sandra, he also demeaned the 99% of women (regardless of religion) who use contraceptives in their lifetimes. We have proven that women will not be silenced nor shamed!

The twenty-six companies who have stopped airing ads on Limbaugh's show include AOL, Allstate, John Deere, ProFlowers, Carbonite, Geico and Sears. On top of that, WBEC in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and KPUA in Hilo, Hawaii have decided to stop airing Limbaugh’s show.

These are huge victories, and they wouldn’t have happened without your support, and that of thousands of other FMF supporters.

  • Stand with Sandra Fluke for birth control access!

We are asking you join us in standing with Sandra Fluke, who is being attacked by Rush Limbaugh because she dared to testify in Congress about birth control access. Limbaugh called Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute.” This is unacceptable. When Limbaugh attacked Sandra, he also demeaned the 99% of women who use contraceptives in their lifetimes – regardless of religion. We will not be silenced nor shamed.

Stand with Sandra and demand coverage of contraceptives without co-pays or deductibles for most women under the Affordable Care Act’s preventive care package. This coverage would apply to women who work at universities, hospitals, or social service agencies – regardless of any institutional religious affiliation.

The Catholic bishops, the right-wing leadership in Congress, and especially Rush Limbaugh have no right to control women’s access to birth control. We are counting down to see how long it will take to stop the outrageous attacks on contraceptive availability and the concurrent assault on women’s rights and dignity.

Please sign the pledge. It’s time to stand with Sandra and demand access to birth control.

  • Fight Anti-Woman Bills in Virginia!

The Virginia Republican-controlled House voted yes on both a personhood bill that grants fertilized eggs personhood under the Virginia Code of Laws, which could lead to investigating women for miscarriage, banning in vitro fertilization, criminalizing birth control, and outlawing all abortions. They also voted for a mandatory ultrasound bill that requires a probe to be inserted into the vagina of a woman seeking an abortion in the very early stages of pregnancy, with or without her consent. Act now to fight anti-woman bills in Virginia!

  • Write to Congress - help support contraceptive coverage now!

We are asking you to stand with us in supporting President Obama and Secretary Sebelius' announced HHS rule under the Affordable Care Act's preventive health benefit package that requires insurers to provide women employees and women dependents, including those of religiously-affiliated institutions, birth control without co-pays or deductibles, without extra cost, and without opt-in or opt-out clauses.

The fight has now moved to Congress. Several Senators who had problems with the original proposal have announced they will support the Obama plan. Republican leaders, however, in the House and Senate are moving legislation forward to stop this preventive coverage for women. We must strengthen the resolve of Congress members to vote no against such proposals that are hostile to the needs of women's health. We must have as large of a "no" vote as possible to slow such attacks on women's health care. Congressional members must hear a vast outcry. It is 2012 and women must decide, not their bosses nor school administrators.

  • (No Title)

The Washington Post is supporting the Catholic Bishops by repeatedly (and one-sidedly) attacking the Obama administration’s decision to maintain contraception access for millions of women, without deductibles or copays, under the Affordable Care Act. The Bishops demanded that the administration, which has already exempted houses of worship, also exempt businesses owned by religious interests, such as hospitals, universities, insurance companies, and social service agencies. And the Post is backing them up.

Tell the Washington Post they got it wrong this time.

  • Victory! Birth Control without co-pays or deductibles!

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and the Obama Administration decided not to broaden the religious exemption for contraceptive coverage under the Preventive Care package of the Affordable Care Act. This request, primarily by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, would have denied millions of American women contraceptive coverage, including students, teachers, nurses, social workers, and other staff (and their families) at religiously-connected or associated schools, universities, and hospitals, as well as institutions, such as Catholic Charities. Please take a moment to thank Secretary Sebelius and President Obama for this decision in support of women's health.

  • Victory! FBI Uniform Crime Report Definition of Rape Changed

Please take a minute to thank Director Robert Mueller and the FBI, who finally changed the archaic definition of rape in the FBI's Uniform Crime Report. With a modern, broader definition, FBI statistics will finally show the true breadth of this violence that affects so many women's lives.

  • Ask US Leaders to Stop Abstinence Only Programs

  • Tell the President to reverse the HHS decision on Plan B!

Tell President Obama to reverse the HHS decision to block FDA approval of Plan B over the counter without an age restriction. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius took unprecedented action today to overrule the FDA's recommendation.

This cannot stand. Women and girls' lives are in the balance. Take action now!

  • No More Excuses: Change the Definition of Rape

Tell the FBI Director Robert Mueller:

It’s high time for the FBI to modernize their archaic definition of rape ("The carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will") to reflect the reality of rape in the United States. Please give final approval to update the Uniform Crime Report so that the definition of rape includes all victims. Every rape should be counted.

  • Tell the Catholic Bishops NO! Women need no-copay birth control!

Your action is urgently needed. Please tell President Barack Obama and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius not to give in to demands from the Conference of Catholic Bishops that would expand the religious exemption and deny birth control coverage with no-copays for millions of women.

As the world reaches an historic population of 7 billion people, it is critical that the United States take action to increase funding for international reproductive health and family planning. Globally, 215 million women who want modern contraceptives are being denied access. Ask your Senators and Congressperson to act now.

  • No More Excuses: Rape Kits must be Tested

Tell the International Association of Chiefs of Police:

Each year tens of thousands of individuals report incidents of rape to law enforcement; however, rape has the lowest arrest and prosecution rates of all violent crimes in the United States. Part of the problem is a backlog of untested rape evidence kits. Visit http://feminist.org/ to learn more about the Feminist Majority Foundation's National Clinic Access Project and the status of embattled clinics in the United States.

  • Tell CBS that using the public airwaves to promote an anti-abortion message will lose the network both respect and business

The Super Bowl audience, one of the largest of any event, spans all ages and political positions, and should not be used to promote an anti-abortion message.

Tell CBS that using the public airwaves to promote an anti-abortion message will lose the network both respect and business.

  • Help Free Courageous Iranian Feminists

Please take a moment now to continue your solidarity with imprisoned Iranian women’s rights activists by sending emails to protest their imprisonment and to demand women's equality under the law and respect for universal human rights.

We must not be silent in the face of this oppression. Our voices are making a difference.

  • Tell the White House Afghan Women and Girls are Key to Building Peace

Afghan women and girls have proven to be essential in working for peace and courageously fighting against unjust acts perpetrated by the Taliban. As international leaders talk about reintroducing the Taliban back into society, we must not forget the Afghan women and girls who have suffered horrific human rights abuses under the Taliban are just quickly forgotten.

Please tell the White House there will be no peace if Afghan women and girls are not included in the international dialogue.

  • Tell CBS that using the public airwaves to promote an anti-abortion message will lose the network both respect and business

Even as the trial continues for the murder of Dr. George Tiller, CBS is planning to air an anti-abortion ad during this weekend’s Super Bowl game. Tell CBS that this is no time to feed the anger and hatred of anti-abortion extremists.

  • Women Will Not Go Back

Comprehensive health care reform is crucial. But it must not be a vehicle to further restrict a woman's right to choose. The Stupak-Pitts amendment to the House Bill prevents women from buying abortion coverage with their own money. The negotiable Nelson amendment goes too far in setting up a two payment process from an individual buying a private plan with abortion coverage. It creates a disincentive for private insurance plans to cover abortion. Right now, 80-85% of health insurance plans cover abortion - women must not go backwards!

*Please note that this action is only targeted towards Democratic members of Congress. If no actions are available at this time we thank you for your support and encourage you to check back for updates at www.feminist.org.

  • Help Free Courageous Iranian Activists

Please take a moment now to show your solidarity with the One Million Signature Campaign and Human Rights activist Shirin Ebadi by sending emails to protest the arrests of the Mourning Mothers, Noushin Ebadi (Shirin Ebadi's sister), a professor in dentistry, Mansoureh Shojaee, a founder of the One Million Signatures campaign for women’s equality in Iran, and Morteza Kazemian, a journalist and to demand women’s equality under the law and respect for universal human rights.

We must not be silent in the face of this oppression.

Stop funding for Fake Clinics and Abstinence-Only Education!  Stop Deceptive Advertising Practices!

Millions of federal dollars fund failed abstinence-only programs and so-called Crisis Pregnancy Centers or “fake clinics.” Congressional studies have shown abstinence only programs don’t work and too often lead young people to question the need for contraception.

Crisis Pregnancy Centers, often advertising under “abortion services” in the yellow pages, pose as full-service women’s health clinics and lure women in with promises of free pregnancy tests and “counseling” for unintended pregnancies.   Contrary to what they want you to believe, these fake clinics repeatedly make false medical claims to dissuade and delay women from obtaining comprehensive medical services, particularly abortion and birth control.

Tell Congress we will not be silent while failed abstinence-only programs and crisis pregnancy centers continue to use federal funding and endanger women’s health!

The Senate defeated the anti-choice Nelson-Hatch amendment to health care reform by a vote of 54-45!

Send your Senators who voted against Nelson-Hatch a thank you for voting against this deplorable amendment that sought to deny women choice.

And make sure to send Senators who voted for the amendment an email telling them that you are outraged they voted for an amendment that would be the biggest rollback to a woman’s rights to choose in decades.

  • Stop Stupak/Pitts - Women won't go back!
  • Stop Child Marriage!

Take action today to stop child marriages! In several countries across the world, including India, Niger, and Uganda, more than half of girls are married before they turn 18. Girls as young as 7 or 8 are forced into marriage, and pressured to give birth before their bodies are ready.

This is your chance to take a stand against the widespread practice of child marriage that takes place in many of the world's poorest countries. These girls face increased risks for domestic violence, maternal mortality, infant mortality, obstetric fistula, and contracting HIV. They are often forced to drop out of school, and lose the chance to gain vital skills that could help them overcome poverty.

Join us in urging legislators to take action on the International Child Marriage Prevention and Protection Act of 2009!

For more information on what you can do to end the practice of child marriage, visit the International Center for Research on Women's website or email the Feminist Majority Foundation's Global Coordinator at ahossain@feminist.org.

Ms. Pledge to Thank and Support Abortion Providers

I thank and support abortion providers, doctors, nurses, health care workers and clinic staff. Without these courageous health care workers women would have no choice...too many women and girls would die and/or suffer needlessly.

    I PLEDGE THAT I WILL:

I will speak the truth about abortion and/or speak out about my story.

I will encourage others to speak out.

I will insist the administration and politicians speak respectfully about abortion providers and women who have abortions.

I will support clinics and clinic workers that are threatened and not allow them to be marginalized.

I will urge our nation's lawmakers to pass tougher laws and to ensure local, state and federal authorities enforce the laws already on the books to protect abortion providers.

  • Help Free Journalist Roxana Saberi

Please join feminists and human rights activists worldwide in urging the Iranian government to commute the sentence of journalist Roxana Saberi.

Saberi was initially arrested in February, purportedly for working without press credentials. In March, she was charged with espionage and being an American spy. She was sentenced to 8 years in prison after a one day, closed-door trial. Reports indicate that her case will be reheard May 12.

No evidence against Saberi has been released by the Iranian government. It is increasingly evident that the charges against her are baseless and reports indicate that she may have been forced to make incriminating statements while imprisoned.

Write to urge Iran's reversal of Saberi’s sentence and her immediate release from prison.

  • Dr. Tiller Vindicated!

Great news! Once again Dr. George Tiller has been vindicated. A jury has just ruled unanimously he is not guilty on all 19 counts of violating the Kansas state abortion laws and did not perform illegal abortions. Tiller had faced a possible 19 year jail sentence.

Thank you for your support throughout this six-month investigation. As you know, Dr. Tiller is one of the few late-term abortion providers available for women with troubled pregnancies and complicated health problems.

Please send a message to Dr. Tiller about how elated your are that he was once again vindicated!
