Tell your Representative to Support the United Nations
Congress is now considering the United Nations Transparency, Accountability and Reform Act (H.R. 2829), a piece of legislation that would effectively end our relationship with the United Nations.
If passed, the bill would create unreasonable compliance requirements that would trigger the defunding of multiple UN agencies and impact the lives of millions of women and girls around the world. UN entities like the World Food Program, UNDP, UNICEF, UN Women, and UNFPA work every day to provide life saving interventions on the ground. This legislation would terminate funding to these and all other UN entities because of new burdensome and unnecessary provisions. The bill essentially calls for the U.S. to receive preferential treatment by asking the UN to submit additional, extensive “oversight information” to the United States, beyond what other member states receive and what UN entities already provide.
Women and girls in the developing world already face enormous challenges. This bill would have detrimental effects on their lives, which in turn has a ripple effect on the health of their families and communities.
It is important that your Representative hears from you and the majority of Americans who agree that the U.S. should be actively engaged at the UN. Act now and tell your Representative to vote NO on this harmful piece of legislation!
