In December 2009, Representative Barbara Lee introduced H. Res. 947, a resolution supporting the objectives of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).  The ICPD was a seminal gathering of health, women's rights and development advocates held in Cairo fifteen years ago.  This event broke new ground by recognizing that women’s empowerment, gender equality, and sexual and reproductive health and rights are at the center of sustainable development.
