Tell Senators to Vote to Prevent Harmful Cuts Due to Start in March
More than $85 billion in cuts to current year spending are now scheduled to start on March 1. They will impose indiscriminate and needless cuts to domestic programs: denying WIC nutrition aid to 600,000 children and mothers, leaving 70,000 children without Head Start and 30,000 without child care, cutting unemployment benefits, denying rental housing vouchers to 125,000 families, cutting home energy and homeless aid, education and training, and much more. Medicare will be cut by $11.2 billion. Senators can stop these senseless cuts to vital services by voting for the American Family Economic Protection Act to be introduced by Senate Democrats (a vote is expected February 27 or 28). This bill stops the cuts to human needs programs, replacing them with a minimum tax on millionaires, ending certain corporate tax loopholes, and reductions in farm subsidies. Please tell your Senators to vote for this bill and to oppose other plans that keep or worsen cuts that will harm our people and stunt economic growth.
