Dear Representative/Senator

I strongly urge you to support an improvement in the Child Tax Credit (CTC) so that it can help more poor children and their families. Please vote to set the CTC minimum earnings requirement at $8,500, as included in the House-passed tax bill H.R. 6049, and end the annual inflation adjustments that deprive parents with stagnant earnings from benefiting from the credit. Your support will provide vital help to 13 million children who will either get the CTC for the first time or whose families will receive more help from it. With the price of food and fuel skyrocketing, Congress should not delay in taking this step to reduce child poverty. The Senate has been considering legislation that sets minimum earnings at $10,000. This does not go far enough. It helps 1.5 million fewer children than the House bill does. Congress should reject an approach that reduces the help to poor children in order to provide more business tax breaks. Congress will do more both to prevent hardship and to promote economic recovery by helping those most in need, as the House bill does. Further, the House bill preserves revenues the nation needs to make vital investments now and in the future. I am a constituent and I’m counting on your vote to help 13 million children by reducing the CTC earnings minimum to $8,500 as in H.R. 6049. Sincerely,
