Power to the People: California Solar Net Metering

Commonly known as the policy that allows your electric meter to spin backwards, net metering is a simple billing arrangement that ensures solar customers receive fair credit for the electricity their systems generate during daytime hours. The program has empowered Californians to go solar, save on their utility bills, reduce harmful emissions, and support new economic growth and job creation across the state. It’s one of the most important tools we have to allow energy consumers to generate their own clean, reliable electricity from the sun.

Now some of California’s major utilities are attacking this consumer right. If they’re successful Californians will lose the bill-saving benefits of net metering and rooftop solar adoption will grind to a halt.

We need your help defending California net metering!

I support California net metering.

I support a vision where California energy users have the freedom to choose to generate their own power using solar and other renewables.

I support continued energy bill savings for homeowners, schools, public agencies and businesses that make an investment in solar power.

I support continued solar job creation in a sector that is already employs 25,000 Californians and is growing ten times faster than the overall economy.

I support private investment in solar power to reduce the amount of electricity that utilities must generate and deliver, reducing the need for expensive new power plants and lowering ratepayer costs.

I support continued growth of the California solar market that has driven more than $10 billion in private investment in the state economy over the last 5 years.

I support the tremendous environmental and public health benefits that rooftop solar delivers to all Californians.

I ask my policymakers to defend the net metering program that is critical to delivering all of these benefits to Californians.
