Day of Action to Close Guantánamo
Support the Hunger Strike at Guantánamo:
Day of Action to Close Guantánamo & End Indefinite Detention
Right now, the men detained at the U.S. prison in Guantánamo are engaged in a large-scale hunger strike, which began in early February. Some are now in critical condition. The vast majority of the 166 men have been held for more than 11 years without any charge or fair trial, with no end to their detention in sight. The Obama administration must take swift measures to humanely address the immediate causes of the hunger strike and fulfill its promise to close the Gtantanamo.
The Center for Constitutional Rights, Witness Against Torture, World Can’t Wait and other groups are calling for an emergency National Day of Action on April 11 to demand the closure of Guantánamo and an end to indefinite detention. Raise your voice! Join the Day of Action!
Organize a local demonstration. Ideal locations are Federal buildings, congressional offices, and U.S. military sites like recruitment centers. We can help you plan a rally. Write to email@example.com. Find a vigil near you. Post your action beforehand and post photos afterwards on the Guantanamo Hunger Strike Support event page on Facebook. Also connect with the Center for Constitutional Rights, Witness Against Torture and Amnesty International.
Call the White House comment line at 202.456.1111 or switchboard at 202.456.1414 and say, “President Obama, there is a humanitarian crisis at Guantánamo. I urge you to swiftly close the prison by releasing the men you will not charge and by giving fair trials to those you will.” You can also e-mail the White House from www.whitehouse.gov/contact
