Open Letter to President Barack Obama, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, and Members of Congress

A Petition for people of faith and conscience, who oppose Arizona's new immigration law, SB1070.

We, the undersigned, as people of faith and conscience, stand in opposition to ArizonaSB1070 and attempts to use fear of immigrants to promote hatred and racism throughout the nation. We further call for real solutions to the problems in Arizona and throughout the nation that have generated support for SB1070 and copycat efforts in other states:

1. Comprehensive Immigration Reform must be enacted at the national level, to help those who have lived, worked and paid taxes in this country for years to come out of the shadows and have a path to legalization and citizenship, and to protect all U.S. residents, native born and immigrant alike.

2. National legislation must create and sustain good jobs in sufficient numbers to end the crisis of unemployment and underemployment. We define good jobs as those that provide living wages, basic benefits, dignity at the workplace, and the right to organize a union if workers so choose.

3. There must be strict enforcement of all labor and employment laws, so that employers cannot use the vulnerability of undocumented workers to drive down labor standards for all workers in the U.S.
