GE: Pay Your Fair Share
As the poster child for corporate tax-dodging, GE has made billions off the 99 percent, while cutting jobs, stashing money in offshore tax-haven accounts, and employing an army of lobbyists to buy political influence and stay ahead of its tax bill.
Please sign the letter below and tell GE it's time to pay its fair share!
An Open Letter to General Electric
We, the undersigned are deeply concerned about the increasing disparity between the very wealthy and the working poor. While 99 percent of the population struggles to survive in this economy, companies like General Electric get away with:
—Laying off more than 4,000 workers despite making $10.5 billion in profits and paying $203 million to their top five executives;
—Receiving $8 billion in income tax subsidies; and
—Not only NOT paying taxes, but also getting a $4.7 billion tax refund
We’re shorted billions of dollars in much-needed corporate tax revenue every year, but corporations keep getting more breaks. As much-needed services and safety nets are cut, hurting families are devastated in this economy. As people of faith, we urge you, General Electric, to do the right thing: pay your fair share.
